Beekeeping in Latvia
The authors are beekeepers from the ZS Jaunspieki bee farm, to whom I have been supplying Carniolan queen bees for several years. Although Latvia is exposed to adverse climatic conditions, bees thrive there.

I asked beekeepers from all over Europe to tell us about beekeeping in their country or region. The first to introduce himself is beekeeper Norbert Surányi from Hungary.
Breeding hives provide a suitable environment for queen bees to mature sexually.
Our bees are very gentle. They don’t attack beekeepers when they work in beehives. Breeding colonies retain their gentle nature even when working at night.
In the last decade of March, we made our first interventions in bee colonies. We’ve narrowed the colonies down to occupied space.
